Generally speaking, investing today in your retirement plan will typically include these asset classes: Cash or Cash Equivalents, Bonds or Fixed Income, and Stocks or Equities. Each posses a different risk/return profile with stocks being the highest risk/expected return and Cash being the least amount risk/expected return.
